Katherine Harmer, President and Founder of the first concierge practice in Colorado, spent the first 12 years of her career managing international consulting teams developing new products and launching new concepts.

After losing her father to cancer, she applied her experience towards creating a medical environment where communication to patients came first and launched a concierge practice called Higher Care in 2003.  She was involved in the daily management of running the practice.

Also in 2003, she provided the initiative and co-founded a new non-profit organization designed to facilitate physicians’ transition to a concierge business model. Today, SIMPD, now known as AAPP is the leading resource for physicians contemplating transitioning to an alternate business model. Katherine served on the board as the VP from 2003-2005 and was instrumental in successful discussions with the GAO and other state legislative bodies. 

To further assist physicians interested in changing business models, HCMC was formed in late 2003.  HCMC helps physicians and medical organizations navigate through the complicated process of opening and structuring medical practices with alternative financial models in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines. HCMC has been retained to chart strategy and strengthen financial performance as well as provide health care management as an advisor and key resource to physicians and hospitals.  HCMC combines the practical experience of running a concierge practice with significant experience in developing and successfully launching customized medical practices designed around the physician’s personal goals.
